Registration will be available soon! There are options for adults and youth to register for the event and also an opportunity for you to sleep in for the cause and still support the celebration! All GOTR girls and coaches are automatically registered for the event.
Where is the celebration this year?
The 2017 celebration is being held in the same location as last year. The Start/Finish line and the center of the 5K activity will be at Potawatomi Park (500 S. Greenlawn Avenue, South Bend, IN 46615) just west of the Potawatomi Pool on Wall Street.
What time will the celebration finish?
We encourage spectators and participants to stay and cheer on the finishers until the last participant crosses the finish line around 10am. This teaches our girls to support her teammates and practice good sportsmanship.
Are there aid stations available?
Water will be available at the start. Two Aid stations will be available on the course. Each participant should plan to take no more than two servings of water at each Aid Station. Runners are also encouraged to bring water bottles along on the course. Additional water and snacks will be available at the finish line.
Are jogging strollers allowed on the course?
Absolutely! We just ask that you line up at the back of the starting crowd, to ensure your safety and the safety of the other participants.
Can I bring my dog or pet?
For safety, all furry friends are not allowed on the course or at the event, so please leave all pets at home on 5K day! All pets will be asked to return to the pet owner's vehicle if spotted at the event.
What if it rains, storms, or snows?
Participant and spectator safety is first and foremost with event officials and Girls on the Run. We will closely monitor weather conditions for the 5K weekend, but due to rapidly changing weather we may not be able to make any official decision regarding the 5K until Saturday morning. Parents and guardians are encouraged to evaluate the situation as well, and make their own judgements regarding the weather.
The celebration will occur rain or shine, but if lightning is present, the 5K event will be cancelled. Check in on our social media platforms (Facebook and Twitter) and listen for announcements on-site should weather become inclement that morning. Unfortunately, no refunds will be issued due to inclement weather situations.
Where should I park?
There will be parking available in the IUSB parking garage and surface lot on the southwest corner of Mishawaka Ave and 20th St. Please arrive early to give yourself extra time to find a parking space and walk to the team meet-up area. Look for signage directing you to event parking. We will have volunteers at the intersection of 20th St and Mishawaka Ave directing you to the 5K Celebration.
WHAT TIME DO THE ROADS CLOSE FOR THE 5K?
Road closures will begin at 8:45am. All roads of the 5K route will be completely closed to vehicle traffic until 10:00am. These road closures will be monitored and enforced by the South Bend Police Department.
My daughter is a GOTR participant; do I need to register her for the 5k?
You do not need to the complete the online 5K registration or submit an additional payment for your daughter as long as she is participating in the current Girls on the Run season. We really encourage all girls to have a family member for friend participate with her and that participant needs to be registered for the event.
Are GOTR particpants required to attend the pre-celebration Packet Pick-Up?
Girls on the Run participants will receive their bib from their coaches at the celebration and are not required to attend the pre-celebration Packet Pick-up. If you are planning to run with your girl, picking up your packet at the pre-celebration Packet Pick-Up on May 12th from 4-7pm at Fleet Feet Mishawaka is optional. Packet Pick-Up will be open from 7am-8:45am the morning of the 5K, in the same location as the team meet-up area. However, the lines can get long. Visiting the Packet-Pick-Up the day before the celebration will save you time on Saturday morning.
What time should GOTR Participants arrive on Saturday morning?
Girls on the Run participants are strongly encouraged to meet their coaches at their designated Feather Flag, in the Team Meet-Up Area at 7am. There are a bunch of fun activities and lots of team bonding that happens at the Celebration Expo. Join in on the fun! Participants must meet their team at their designated Feather Flag no later than 8:20am.
My daughter is a Girls on the Run participant, what should she wear?
Girls on the Run participants must wear their PINK program t-shirt and running shoes.
Where do spectators go to cheer on their GOTR Girl?
You are invited to cheer on the participants at the start, along the course, and at the finish. The route loops back so that you can potentially see your runner 3 times and only have to walk ¼ mile! You may congratulate your runner once she has exited the finish chute and then proceed to the Finisher's Photo Zone and snap a picture of your Girl on the Run with her medal in front of the 5K backdrop.
How do I find my daughter after the 5K celebration?
We strongly encourage you or another family member/close friend to register and run/walk with your daughter. Participating with her is a great way to model healthy behavior and support her in achieving her goal. It’s important that this person is able to encourage the girl to go at her own happy pace! This celebration is not about being first or fastest, we want every girl to enjoy the celebration! If you, or someone else from your family, are unable to participate with your daughter, let her coach know. We have course marshals all along the 3.1-mile course to ensure that our participants are supervised at all times. Please make sure to make a meet-up plan with your girl prior to the celebration so you both know where to go once she has finished.
