It is hard to believe that it has been eleven years since I was a Girl on the Run. I participated in each season while I was in third, fourth and fifth grade. I do not remember every lesson, but I do remember how much fun I had. My coach was my favorite teacher and I ran with my best friends. Girls on the Run influenced me and made me the person I am today.
During the fall of my senior year of college, I felt like something was missing. I had been part of the Michiana community for four years but did not feel involved. I applied for an internship with GOTR Michiana because I wanted to fill that gap. As soon as I started my internship in January and met the directors of the program, I fell in love with Girls on the Run all over again. Everyone I met was so joyful and passionate about the program.
I decided that I also wanted to be an assistant coach a few weeks before the 2017 season started. I wanted to see what it would be like on the other side: once a Girl on the Run, now a coach. The girls on my team have so much more energy than I remember having, but they are fun to be around!
I am passionate about Girls on the Run because it teaches lessons that the girls will use their entire lives, not just when they are young. Without even realizing it, I still uphold the core values of GOTR to my own life. The lessons of Girls on the Run are incorporated in my every day life.
I am so thankful to be a part of Girls on the Run once more. Girls on the Run is so much fun!
